Diakonos An old obscure Greek neuter noun, meaning one who runs errands, attends on others, a waiter/waitress, a servant. Picked up by Christianity to humbly add responsibility as a servant to care for others, especially widows and orphans. Later it became an "order" in the Christian church known as deacons to care for all. |
